While some studies claim that using social media can have positive effects, others show the exact opposite. Among other things, the often singled-out filters come into question.
“Bold Glamour,” the latest filter to hit TikTok, has drawn the ire of a large number of users of the Chinese social network. Questionable? Almost undetectable. If normally the filters available on TikTok have the annoying tendency to jump when a user puts their hand in front of their face, the “Bold Glamor” filter stands up to this test.
Many did not hesitate to test the filter to denounce its harmful effects on mental well-being. Once again a way to appease the physical complexes and lack of self-esteem in the youngest.
“How to feed lack of confidence,” one user captioned her video on TikTok, while another clearly stated, “This filter needs to be blocked. […] If you don’t want to ruin your day, don’t try. Because all it’s going to do is make you feel like shit.” For her part, actress Katherine Heigl, who tested this filter, didn’t even have to speak to criticize it, but still split an unmistakable legend: “Um, me hate that bitch #boldglamourfilter is not for me.”
Despite scathing reviews, the Bold Glamor filter was still used in more than 7.8 million videos on TikTok. A real success that only grows thanks to the controversy that makes it more and more popular on the platform. The algorithm also highlights videos with this effect.
Behind this success, undetectable filters could turn out to be real business.
