During his last newscast, the reporters he had contact with ended their contacts with a few farewell words to their colleagues until around 9:30 p.m. he was the one who turned to viewers to say goodbye. In his last speech, he recalled his beginnings at the Pueblo newspaper and his time at RNE, TVE, where he arrived under the leadership of Pilar Miró, and Antena 3, before moving to Telecinco, where he worked for 18 years. He thanked the managers and his colleagues “with whom I tried to make news based on the facts and opinions of the protagonists.” “I am very grateful to everyone who taught me this profession and to you for that “Allowed me to enter your house,” he said. “For my part, I go back with the best memories, being with you for so many years. I wish you times of less tension, more justice and more happiness. “Very good night and see you always,” he concluded, visibly moved.

The farewell of his colleagues to Pedro Piqueras began in the 3 p.m. edition of the news program with the broadcast of a tribute video in which Alba Lago, José Ribagorda, Isabel Jiménez, David Cantero and Ángeles Blanco dedicate a few words to him on the subject of archive images. “You always loved singing, but you decided to tell. Tell each family's story as if it were just you. You gave them and us the best of yourself. Whether in front of or behind the screen, you were the person you could trust. Just as authentic and close, just as consistent and committed to the job. A journalist and only a journalist. Thank you Pedro.”

This Thursday, the channel's website also published a video in which Piqueras himself told how he experienced this last day of work. “I'm leaving and I'm going to miss her very much because my life consisted of television. I have been anchored on the screen since 1988 and the truth is that I am a little afraid of what will happen next Monday without an agenda, but I am sure everything is going well. In the video, he also takes the opportunity to praise his successor Carlos Franganillo, “an outstanding guy, so outstanding that I don't think they will miss me,” he says in the video.

Piqueras worked at Telecinco for 18 years, starting in 2006. He previously directed Radio Nacional de España between 2004 and 2006. From 1993 to 2004 he was at Antena 3, where he came from TVE, where he joined in 1988. In a recent interview in EL PAÍS he had explained his feelings about the moment of retirement: “I am like the bullfighters at the end of the season: stuck. They don't know whether to fight with the left or with the right, they do everything right, by profession, but at some point they know that they have to stop. Plus, I've been doing the same thing for 34 years: going out at 10 p.m. without having a social life. I am 68 years old. “Not everything is work.”

With Francisco Moreno as head of news at Mediaset España, the group's news programs begin a new cycle in January. The edition from Monday to Friday at 9:00 p.m. is hosted by Carlos Franganillo, a journalist who comes from TVE. Her place at the head of La 1's evening news program will be taken by Marta Carazo, previously a correspondent in Brussels. At Telecinco, Ángeles Blanco and Isabel Jiménez will lead the delivery at 3:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Additionally, Blanco will be responsible for taking Carlos Franganillo's place when he is not on set. David Cantero, José Ribagorda and Leticia Iglesias will present the Telecinco Weekend News. And Laila Jiménez and Arancha Morales are responsible for the morning edition.

It remains to be seen who will be in charge of the new Cuatro news broadcasts, a relaunch whose plans have not yet been communicated. In addition, the channel will present a new set, currently under construction, which will include technological advances and novelties in scenography and lighting, multi-purpose spaces and narrative support.
