Brasilia, April 9 (RHC) Popular, social and trade union movements have held a broad demonstration against Jair Bolsonaro’s government in at least 72 Brazilian cities since Saturday morning.

Under the slogan “Bolsonaro Never Again”, the mobilizations take place amid heavy criticism of the increase in fuel and petrol, alongside high unemployment and the return of hunger to the country.

According to Ricardo Moresi, general coordinator of the workers’ union of the Federal University of Alagoas (Sintufal), the unions and the Brazilian people can no longer accept all the evils that this government has inflicted on the Brazilian people.

For Jailton Lira, president of the Federal University of Alagoas (Adufal) Association of Teachers, the Bolsonaro government has sponsored a series of humanitarian disasters, including neglecting the pandemic, disrupting key public health and education efforts, and citizen safety.

In the town of Bandeirantes, where Bolsonaro intends to arrive by motorcycle, social movements, parties and communities called for the “Bolsonaro Never Again” demonstration at 9am this morning

The #Bolsonaro NuncaMais events, organized by entities such as the CUT and the popular movements of the Popular Brasil and Povo Sem Medo fronts, have already been confirmed in 72 cities.

“This year is crucial for our lives, it is the year that will determine what future we want for our country, for us, for our families and for the whole Brazilian people,” warned CUT Secretary General Carmen Foro.

“For this reason, in addition to an act of resistance, to take to the streets to protest and denounce the Bolsonaro government is also an act of raising popular awareness of the tragedy we are witnessing,” concluded the President.

The protests are the result of an initiative by the Campaign for Bolsonaro, an entity that brings together different movements and fighting fronts such as the Central de Movimientos Populares (CMP).

The national mobilization denounced the seriousness of the economic, social, environmental and cultural crisis afflicting Brazil on the main streets of the country.

Raimundo Bonfim, national coordinator of the CMP, pointed out that people are desperate not to be able to cope with successively increasing bills for electricity, gas for cooking, fuel, medicines and groceries.

“Brazil can no longer endure the government’s irresponsibility, crimes, horrors and inhumanity. Bolsonaro has dismantled the country and will leave a legacy of destruction for the Brazilian people and the future rulers who will succeed him from next year,” he said.

“We cannot accept that there are no alternatives to fighting hunger, unemployment, poverty and inflation,” said Bonfim. (Source: Telesur)
