Pierre Lavoie and Horacio Arruda, who were present at the event, hope to set a new attendance record.

“In Quebec, everyone knows that we need to exercise and keep our bodies healthy. Now we have to create favorable conditions, we have to change the structures a little, we have to be able to change our models, which are not inclusive,” explains Mr. Lavoie.

The 9th edition of the Great Walk, taking place in more than 100 cities, helps promote physical activity, a real public health issue, according to the deputy minister at the Ministry of Health.

“We know that by moving we prevent many illnesses, cancers and mental health. Very, very big wins. If we want to avoid ending up in a hospital environment that requires care, good nutrition and physical activity, everyone can walk from a young age!” explains Dr. Arruda.
