On the website Taste Atlas, a kind of online encyclopedia of global cuisine, three Brazilian cheeses are on the list of the 100 best in the world. The highest place among Brazilian options is Canastra from Minas Gerais at number 24. Below this are Coalho cheese (85th) and Minas cheese (93rd).

The ranking takes into account 1,378 cataloged cheeses and 24,296 reviews from site users, who rate the options from 0.5 to five. Canasta scores 4.47; Lab, 4.3; and Minas, 4.28. View the full list in English.

The first three places on the list go to Italian cheeses. First up is Parmigiano Reggiano, whose taste is described on the website as “brownish to strong and slightly spicy, depending on the level of ripeness.” Second is the Campana buffalo mozzarella and third is the creamy Stracchino di Crescenza.

Minas was also mentioned in the list by Taste Atlas 100 Best Gastronomic Regions in the World. The state is ranked 30th, with a focus on cheese bread, bean tutu, Tropeiro beans, cow atolada and tapioca cookies.
