A rescue operation continues to find a little girl who fell into the Mistassini River in front of her mother on Friday.
According to initial information, the child and his mother slipped near the Motel Chute des Pères in Dolbeau-Mistassini when the little one fell into the waters of the Mistassini River, a tributary of Lake Saint-Jean.
According to citizens, the sloping terrain has some levels and there is a small campsite nearby. The river current would be very strong there.
Less than three days before Christmas, the tragedy occurred near Panoramique Boulevard on Friday around 2:30 p.m. All emergency services were quickly alerted.
Just before 6 p.m., the child was still missing and the mother, who witnessed the sad accident, was picked up by authorities. Other people were also at this location during the event.
The command post has been set up and firefighters are also on site to take part in the search. A bank clean-up is underway and rescue workers are using a boat.
The helicopter and divers from the Sûreté du Québec are expected on site, but the night threatens to slow operations.
The missing girl is believed to be around 4 years old.
