While waiting for Russia to step up its military operations in eastern Ukraine as many are expecting the key developments of the war are still tied to the city of Mariupol. Before the Russian invasion it had 400,000 inhabitants, today it is mostly destroyed, some tens of thousands of people are left and it was almost completely conquered by the Russian army. There are still a few Ukrainian soldiers in the port area of the Azovstal steelworks: It is not known exactly how many there are. They have been resisting for days with little food and ammunition, many of them are wounded. Russia is expected to be able to fully take over the city, which captured the largest since the beginning of the war.
Meanwhile, Russia began hitting targets in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on Friday after several days of calm in the city. On Friday, Russia said it hit one of the factories used to manufacture the Neptune missiles (the ones Ukraine allegedly used to sink the Moscow River); On Saturday, Russia said it hit a military vehicle factory, while on Sunday it said it destroyed a munitions factory in Brovary, on the outskirts of Kyiv. At least one person died in the attack on Saturday and several others were injured.
