Three people are dead and eight were injured – including a youth – after a gunman opened fire in a Texas parking lot.

The shooting took place hours after a festival in the Como neighborhood of Fort Worth at Diaz Avenue and Horne Street around 11:40 p.m. on the eve of July 4th.

The shooter fled the scene and investigators have yet to find a motive and the police have not announced any arrests.

First responders struggled to treat the victims as revelers poured out of the area after the neighborhood’s annual ComoFest.

“Lots of vehicular traffic, lots of foot traffic,” said Captain Shawn Murray of the Fort Worth Police Department. “Firecrackers were fired, many people tried to flee the area from the numerous gunfire, making it difficult for them to get to the area quickly.”

Some of the victims were taken to the hospital in private vehicles, others in ambulances. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers cordoned off two blocks of Horne Street while investigators got to work at the scene.

“We don’t know if it has a domestic connection or if it’s gang related.” It’s too early to say at this point. All we know is that someone shot several times and a lot of people were injured. Hopefully it’s just a lone shooter and there wasn’t a crossfire situation. “Homicide will find out,” said Captain Murray.

Fort Worth police said investigators believe someone opened fire into the crowd, hitting at least 11 people and running terrified festival-goers for their lives.

The violent incident came after a shooting shortly after ComoFest in 2021 that left eight people injured. Nobody was killed.
