Three journalists kidnapped in Mexico freed

Mexico is one of the deadliest countries in the world for journalists.

Three journalists kidnapped in the Mexican state of Guerrero were found unharmed during police searches and released. The State Attorney General’s Office announced this on Saturday.

The three journalists were part of a group of five people who disappeared in the tourist town of Taxco. Two of them ran the digital platform “RedSiete” and were kidnapped by armed men on Wednesday. According to authorities, the third person kidnapped was the director of the weekly “El Expectador”.

Mexico is one of the deadliest countries in the world for journalists. This year alone, five reporters have died, according to Article 19, an international freedom of expression group, compared with a total of 13 the year before.
