Gatineau police arrested three people who tried to leave the area Tuesday night after stealing luxury cars from a dealership.
At approximately 1:10 a.m. on August 10, police discovered three brand-new vehicles driving unregistered on Maloney Boulevard.
Patrol officers attempted to intercept the drivers, who instead fled on Highway 50, prompting an immediate police chase. During the chase, one of the vehicles went off the road, forcing its driver to continue on foot. The suspect was subsequently not found.
However, the driver of the second vehicle was arrested using the famous “carpet of nails,” while the third vehicle was found abandoned in a ditch on the edge of Lorrain Boulevard.
Two other people who were traveling in a fourth non-stolen car were arrested during the operation.
The three men, aged 17, 18 and 24, were taken to the police station and met by investigators. They were released with a promise to appear and could face charges of vehicle theft, conspiracy, possession of burglary tools and escape.
“The investigations are ongoing,” said the Service de Police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG).
