Three people arrested in the Netherlands as part of an investigation into a plot to attack a Belgian minister

Belgian Justice Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne has been placed under increased police surveillance and three people have been arrested in the Netherlands after a “serious” threat against the officer, federal prosecutors said on Saturday.

According to the Flemish daily Het Laatste Nieuws, firearms were discovered in a Dutch-registered vehicle in front of the minister’s house in a suburb of Kortrijk (north-west). Federal prosecutors declined to confirm this information.

In a press release, the public prosecutor announced that three people had been arrested in the Netherlands in the night from Friday to Saturday. Your transfer to Belgium has been requested.

The public prosecutor’s office specifies that “during the last week they have been informed of a possible threat” to the Minister of Justice. An investigation assigned to a coroner “quickly showed that this threat should be taken seriously,” he adds.

The minister has been placed under increased police surveillance and will not be taking part in certain activities planned for the “coming days”. The public prosecutor’s office did not want to give any further details of the investigation.
