The character played by the late actor Octavio Ocaña in the Mexican TV series Neighbors will have a very special presence in the story, producer Elías Solorio told Efe.
“Benito Rivers (played by Octavio for 16 years) cannot appear in the series, but he will be with us: at the premiere we will have a chapter where we will explain what happened to him and how we are doing we will keep him with us,” explains Solorio.
Octavio Ocaña died under strange circumstances in October 2021 at the age of 22 when he was shot in the head in the municipality of Cuautitlán Izcalli, state of Mexico.
Although the young man eventually took a hiatus in interpreting his character, he returned to production in 2019 to join the Televisa program, and in the final aired season, his character began to take giant strides toward maturity after committing to it committed his girlfriend.
Now, promotional material for the new season, which begins March 27 in Las Estrellas, already suggests that the character of Benito – who was forced by his father to audition for acting projects – has managed to stay on a TV series, it will force him to stay away from his family and friends who need to keep in touch with him through messages.
“The first chapter is going to be very special, I would say we wrote it with the people watching the program because a lot of people gave us ideas about social media, the cast, the production, the writers. And I think it’s an emotional and different chapter,” says Solorio, who describes this season’s filming as “complicated” due to his absence.
But along with all the bad, something good has come out of this situation, as everyone participating in the series is uniting even more and committing, as the producer explains, “to working harder so people can have fun.”
Alongside everything emotional, this season sees the usual issues posed by the pandemic thoroughly portrayed for the first time, because if Solorio is clear on one thing, it’s all the bad things that can be experienced, moments of joy and comedy.
“Who hasn’t laughed at the people who danced during vaccinations, who were afraid to get vaccinated and screamed, who didn’t believe in vaccinations?” he recalls.
The plot will also take up the problem of selling the building, which will bring new characters to the stage, moreover, Germán, the caretaker, will have to repair the cistern of the building, finding an apparent treasure in the process, among other funny situations.
