Inspired by Kim Thúy’s autobiographical novel, the feature film Ru will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) next month.
Directed by Charles-Olivier Michaud, the feature film mainly stars Karine Vanasse, Patrice Robitaille and Marie-Thérèse, but also Chloé Djandji in the roles of little Tinh, Chantal Thuy and Jean Bui.
The film will be released in Quebec on November 24th.
Ru was published by Libre Expression in October 2009 and was released in 43 countries and territories. This bestselling novel has been translated into 31 languages and has won numerous literary awards, including the Governor General’s Award.
Several screenings for Just like Sylvain
Monia Chokri’s third film, Simple comme Sylvain, selected in the Indeterminate Consideration section at the last Cannes Film Festival, will have its North American premiere at TIFF.
It will also be screened three times during the festival in the Centerpiece section.
It starred Magalie Lépine-Blondeau and Pierre-Yves Cardinal, as well as Francis-William Rheaume, Monia Chokri, Steve Laplante, Marie-Ginette Guay and Micheline Lanctôt.
The film will hit theaters across Quebec on September 22nd.
The Toronto International Film Festival takes place from September 7th to 17th.
