If there’s one thing we know about awards shows, it’s that celebrities take their red carpet fashion seriously. Tiffany Haddish made sure to let a reporter know it’s not a game. As Haddish walked down a red carpet on Sunday, she stopped for a brief interview with Entertainment Tonight correspondent Lauren Zima and shared her thoughts.

“Did you make a little costume change?” Zima said to Haddish, who wore a bespoke lime green Dolce & Gabbana gown on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party. It consisted of a matching sash draped around her neck, an embellished bustier bodice, and a glittering green skirt with an elegant train. Earlier in the day, Haddish wore a strapless dark emerald dress from the brand on the Oscars red carpet, which was embellished throughout with sequins, had a slim fit and a sharply draped train.

“Um, I’m not wearing a costume. I wear Dolce and Gabbana. It’s called an evening dress, darling. This is not an acting gig, this is my life. This is what fame looks like. This is what success looks like. This is what money looks like. That’s how it looks,” Haddish replied.
As Zima tried to wrap things up, Haddish eventually shifted the conversation to being “jealous” of Zim’s clothes. “You’re out here with no shoes, I’m jealous. Don’t you feel uncomfortable or nothing right? I know because you don’t wear heels. I’m uncomfortable but I look good. That’s what it looks like,” says Haddish.
In ET’s video shared on YouTube, the clip received more than 1.3 million views.
Haddish took to Instagram on Monday and captioned a photo of her dress seen at the Vanity Fair party: “It said ‘CUSTOM’ not costume…”
Believe it or not, choosing an ensemble for an awards show can be quite a challenge for a celebrity. They’re under a lot of pressure to create regularly published “Best Dressed” lists, to impress fans and critics alike, and to take fashion risks in the hopes of delighting. And all the while, they may be in pain and going without food or drink just to fit into certain parts.

While making sure Zima understood that her style isn’t a game, Haddish took a moment to respond to the incident involving Will Smith and Chris Rock onstage at the 94th Academy Awards. Fans of the actress know that she is close friends with the Smith family and has starred opposite Jada Pinkett-Smith in Girls Trip.
“When I saw a black man stand up for his wife. That meant so much to me. And that meant the world to me. And maybe the world doesn’t like how it ended, but for me it was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen because it made me believe that there are still men out there who love their women and care about them take care of their wives,” Haddish said.
The Vanity Fair Oscars after-party was one of the key conclusions to the 2022 Academy Awards, which celebrates the film industry’s brightest talent. Held at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, the event always features a star-studded guest list of Oscar winners, presenters, nominees and those in Hollywood who weren’t in attendance. This year’s guest list was packed with star power, including Zendaya, Kim Kardashian, Kate Hudson, Anya Taylor-Joy and more.
