Celebrating her breakout career in 2017’s comedy Girls Trip alongside Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah, Tiffany revealed that she’s only now beginning to realize the power she wields.

She said: “It’s a huge fight. I probably should have realized three years ago that I’m running away like this because people I know would say, ‘You just have to put me in a movie. give me the job You have the power.”

“But I didn’t realize I had power. I didn’t get it and they knew it before I knew it.’

Tiffany explained that she recently went to Harvard and took a course called “The Business of Entertainment, Media, and Sports,” which made her realize she’d been underselling herself for years.

She explained, “You need the writer to tell the story, to bring the story to paper, but you need the performer to bring it to life. And the right performer puts the booties in the seat. You need the booty in the seat.

“You have to keep the project in mind and the element that was missing was that I had value in that way. It’s not about money. It’s about power and then opportunity to create opportunity. For example, on my show I’m on right now, The Afterparty, I made a request to see more people like me on set.

Tiffany continued to talk about her thought process when choosing projects and partnerships as she revealed that money isn’t everything.

She was candid as she said, “I turned it down, s***, I turned down $10 million just to do a post because it didn’t represent my brand. I turned down $10 million because I value my soul more.

“My spirit, my integrity, how I want to look at myself in the mirror every day … I’d rather be broke than get paid to do something that makes me feel like shit.”

She continued, “At first when it came to acting roles, I just always thought, what seems fun? Now it’s what seems to amuse me and what resonates with my soul? Then I ask who else is working on it? will it be my friends However, what I’ve noticed lately is that the casting comes to me first. That’s how I learned to fight better.

“Because it’s a struggle to get the people you want, because everyone still thinks of you as a talent if they don’t realize I’ve produced things, been nominated for awards, won trophies… I kinda know what i am doing. Give me a chance to make you richer, sir. I may not know how to keep a man, but I do know how to make some money.”

“I needed to talk about certain things. I think the biggest lesson for me is learning that it’s okay to say I’m not okay: Tiffany has been open about her experiences in therapy as she had a tough family life growing up and even ended up in foster care separated from her siblings and opened up about his role in her life

She said: “I was actually court ordered to go to therapy when I was a teenager, but I didn’t really use it. I was just quiet, sitting and drawing, putting puzzles together, but not talking to the therapist. But when I was 21 I had a breakdown so I went back and took it really seriously because I wanted to die.

“It still makes me emotional when I think about it. I didn’t know why God put me on this planet to hurt so much? Why I had to be everyone’s punching bag. I left it there.

“Just before I turned 18, I wanted to kill myself. My grandmother told me I can’t. She showed me that I am valuable.

“You know, as a black woman, we don’t talk about certain things like molestation or rape because we’re embarrassed or we think it’s going to shame the family or whatever. But I needed to talk about certain things. I think the biggest lesson for me is learning that it’s okay to say I’m not okay.
