Arguably the greatest and most influential golfer of all time, Tiger Woods was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame on Wednesday. Woods led a class that included Susie Maxwell Burning, Tim Fincham and Marion Hollins.

The dedication took place at the new PGA Tour headquarters in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The group was originally elected to the Hall of Fame in 2020, but the induction ceremony was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Woods was introduced by his 14-year-old daughter, Sam, who was born the day after he placed second at the 2007 US Open.

In addition to his career accomplishments, Woods has gone beyond golf. He broke down cultural barriers, spearheaded the massive rise in popularity of golf, and became an icon both within and outside of the sport.
Woods’ 82 career wins tie him with Sam Snead, the most in PGA Tour history. The 46-year-old has won 15 major championships, second only to Jack Nicklaus in 18 major careers. Woods set numerous records, including spending 683 weeks as the world’s No. 1 golfer and being named the PGA Tour Player of the Year 11 times.
Woods’ last big win came at the 2019 Masters, where he overcame a two-shot gap before the final round to earn the win. It was a monumental return to triumph after multiple back surgeries had impacted his career.
Woods has not competed on the PGA Tour since the 2020 Masters. His most recent competition was with his son Charlie, who turned 13 last month and finished second at the PNC Championships in December. This was the first time Woods had played since seriously injuring his right leg in a car accident.
Maxwell Burning is a three-time US Open women’s champion (1968, 1972, 1973). She has 11 career LPGA Tour wins to her credit, and in 2000 she was named one of the top 50 players on the LPGA Tour. The 80-year-old woman has also spent most of her career as a teacher and instructor.

Fincham served as Commissioner of the PGA Tour from 1994 to 2016. The 74-year-old has led the Presidents’ Cup, the World Championships of Golf and the FedEx Cup. He became the third commissioner inducted into the Hall of Fame after his predecessors Joseph Day and Dean Beman.

Hollins, who died in 1944 at the age of 51, was recognized posthumously. She was the 1921 U.S. Women’s Amateur Champion and a three-time Capital Women’s Amateur Champion. She was named captain of the US team for the first Curtis Cup in 1932.

The induction ceremony preceded the players’ championship due to start on Thursday. For the first time since 2013, the ceremony took place in Florida during Players Championship Week.
