TikTok and other social networks may be banned in Japan

A plan orchestrated by members of the country’s legislature to outlaw some social mediaincluding the popular TikTok.

According to preliminary information, the legislator wants to present a legislative proposal that bans any social network that is used as a vehicle for disinformation or fake news.

The lawmakers’ intent was revealed by one of them, Norihiro Nakayama, a member of the Liberal Democratic Party and a member of Japan’s Chamber of Representatives, the equivalent of Japan’s Chamber of Deputies.

In an interview granted to Portal agency this Monday (27), Norihiro clearly expresses the idea of the law that is in the works.

“If an application is found to have been used intentionally by a specific part of a specific country for its malicious influencing of operations, immediate service disruption should be considered,” it said.

Norihiro Nakayama also said that this control will act as a warning for companies that control social networks and provide more security for their users.

“Clarification that operations may be suspended will help keep app operators in check as it means TikTok’s 17 million users (in Japan) will lose access. This will also lead to a sense of security for users.”

The US is also considering a ban on TikTok

Norihiro Nakayama’s revelations follow another social media banning plan: the US ban on TikTok.

For some time, some US senators and lawmakers, as well as the country’s President Joe Biden, have expressed concern about the functioning of the Chinese social network in the country.

According to US politicians, TikTok could be used to collect data from US citizens and disseminate content that is potentially harmful to the mental health of children and adolescents.

Around the world, TikTok has suffered other bans in the UK, Belgium, Holland, New Zealand and other countries where the app is banned on mobile devices for the exclusive use of government agencies.
