Tim Considine, who played Mike Douglas, Fred McMurray’s eldest son in the first five seasons of the sitcom My Three Sons, has died at the age of 81.
His son Christopher told THR on Friday that his father had died Thursday in Los Angeles at his home in Mar Vista.
Considine made her screen debut with Red Skelton in “The Clown” in 1953 and two years later starred as the likes of Spin Evans against the rich child of David Stoller Marty Markham in “The Adventures of Spin and Marty”, which premiered as part of ABC “The Mickey Mouse Club.”
The actor went on to star in Hardy Boys series as Frank Hardy, with Tommy Kirk as Joe’s younger annoyance, and appeared in Disney’s 1959 comedy The Shaggy Dog.
He also plays the shocked soldier who is slapped by George C. Scott in the winner of the best 1970 film, Patton. His other film credits include “Executive Suite” and “Her Twelve Men”, and he has appeared on television shows from “Bonanza” and “Gunsmoke” to “The Fugitive” and “Medical Center”.
A sports and racing enthusiast, he has written several books, including The Language of Sport in 1983, The American Grand Prix: The Age of Drivers and Cars, 1997, and Twice a Day: The Yankees in Le Mans. from 2018
His brother John played Reginald Love in the NBC soap opera Another World and co-wrote Robert Altman’s 1978 film The Wedding.
Among the survivors are his son and brother, his wife Willett; his sister Erin; and grandchildren, Ethan and Tyler.
He was married to actress Charlotte Stewart from 1965 to 1969.
