A sexually disturbed man who allegedly drugged women he met on dating sites before sexually assaulting them while unconscious could have caused “many more” victims, according to Montreal police.
“This person contacted his victims, established a relationship of trust, and the assaults ensued […]. It’s really special as a file,” Commander Line Lemay of the Sexual Assault Unit told the Journal.
Samuel Moderie, 28, appeared Thursday at the Montreal courthouse on 13 counts of assaults alleged to have taken place between July 2022 and January 2023.

Samuel Moderie, 28, is said to have sexually assaulted at least five women between July 2022 and January 2023 by meeting them on online dating platforms.
During that time, the resident of Saint-Zotique was in Montérégie on probation for a sexual assault charge that earned him two years in prison in 2019.

Among his distinctive features, Moderie sports an imposing tattoo on his chest.
However, his terms didn’t stop him from using dating platforms like Tinder and JALF, a site that specializes in “playing with fantasies.”
Thanks to this, the alleged executioner came into contact with women.
The one who chained dozens of meetings would have arranged an invitation to the ladies after a virtual connection.
Stunned and photographed
According to the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), the sexual assaults occurred after the women were drugged without their knowledge.
According to our information, the crimes were committed with “a lot of violence”.
Moderie would even go so far as to photograph his unconscious victims.
At the moment there is no indication the photos were broadcast, Commander Lemay told the Journal.

Other possible victims
“There might be other victims who might not know they were attacked because they were drunk,” the commander said.
So far three victims have lodged complaints and at least two other women, who have not yet been identified by police, are said to have suffered the same fate.
Moderie’s victims, who are in their 30s and 40s, lived in Montreal, McMasterville and Saint-Jérôme.
The SPVM also worked in this case with the Richelieu-Saint-Laurent Inter-Municipal Police Council, the Saint-Jérôme Police Department and the Sûreté du Québec.
Pending Fees
The structure of Serial Crime Investigation Management (GECS) was even introduced (see below).
Moderie, arrested on Wednesday and currently in custody, will return to court next week to set a date for a release inquest.
According to our information, further charges could be brought.

MANAGEMENT FOR SERIAL CRIME DETECTION (GECS)?
- Created in 2005;
- Command structure in which all Quebec police services work together to identify and arrest crimes committed by predators;
- Focused on information sharing as much as traditional investigative methods, the help of technology or experts;
- Coordinated by the Sûreté du Québec and used several times a year;
- For crimes against the integrity of the person: manslaughter, kidnapping, enforced disappearance, luring, sex crimes;
- Only one victim can be identified to use, assuming investigation suggests there might be others.
