What’s going on between Russians and Ukrainians, the cold winter in Europe or a possible global recession worries us all so much that we forget about other pressing issues, like what’s happening with the Palestinians. Since September this year, the UN coordinator for the Middle East peace process, Tor Wennesland, has been warning us about the armed clashes in this geographical area.
The occupying power’s cruelty seems never-ending, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas denounced to his counterpart Vladimir Putin during the October 14 Central Asia summit with Russia. Abbas said he distrusted US mediation for “a real solution” because excesses and land grabs continue.
Meanwhile, a note from the BBC reports that so far 114 Palestinians, including children, have been violently killed by unarmed civilians, such as journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. The allegations of torture and negligence against the Zionist authorities must be added. The Palestinian Prisoners Society, for its part, accuses Israel of severe abuses in its prisons, which they call “The Slaughterhouse”. To date, more than 5,000 people are imprisoned in these hellish places, including 620 minors.
Despite all this, the Arab people remain determined to achieve their liberation, a goal backed by two giants: China and Russia, and also by Cuba. Likewise, the UN special envoy points the finger at Israel for its hostile policies, which bring only “fear, hatred and anger.” Interestingly, Tel Aviv is silent about the prisoners and their illegal colonization strategy.
That’s why United Nations diplomat Tor Wennesland continues to stress the urgency of changing the dynamic on the ground given “the fragility of the situation.” Nor does he ignore the underlying political and security issues that he says are “fueling the current instability.” Beijing and Moscow are pushing for a final calm that will restore rights to the Palestinians. We will conclude this brief approach to the case with a recent anecdote reviewed by the Spanish newspaper The country: “When the young Ahmed Mari tried, as he does every day, to enter Israel to work in construction, he could not do so because the electronic and digitized reader that opens the security barrier ‘turned red’ when passing his identity document . The sad thing is that this is linked to the work permit in Hebrew territory. He tried again unsuccessfully and consulted the COGAT application on his cell phone – the Defense Ministry’s body that manages civil affairs in Gaza and the West Bank – to find that they had frozen all the work permits of the residents of the place ” . In other words, Tel Aviv first deprives people of their income by sending them to the slaughterhouse.
