Keith told People before the show that the award marked a “pretty awesome” milestone in his life and career.

“A lot of people behind the scenes helped make this happen,” said the “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” artist. “I’m just seeing the magnitude of the career I’ve built over 30 years when they show the video.”

“You know where you were when you wrote all those songs and you hear those numbers and it’s like you looked one day and suddenly 30 years went by.”

Last summer, Keith said he planned to tour this fall as he remained on the right track in his battle with stomach cancer.

“I feel pretty good,” Keith told The Oklahoman at an event earlier this month ahead of his Toby Keith & Friends golf tournament. “Basically everything is in a real positive trend.”

“With cancer you never know, so you have to prepare.”

Keith said he’s preparing to “hit the road this fall” while he’s feeling strong.

“I have more wind,” he said. “And I’m thinking about bringing the band here and setting it up, playing somewhere for two or three days, just to see if I can last two hours.”

He said he plans to familiarize himself with the routine before heading out.

“I just need to see if I can get through two or three nights of work and get a little break from this chemo and then we’ll get back to work… I’m ready… this is life,” Keith said.

Keith told the newspaper that he is continuing to receive chemotherapy amid the health battle and that the results are trending in the right direction: blood tests are showing better signs and the tumor he has is a third smaller.

Keith said it was about eight weeks away [his] On the latest scan, he added: “I expect there will be even fewer of them the next time I look for this tumor – and I only found one that was shown.”

Keith told the newspaper that he is undergoing immunotherapy and regularly sees a nutritionist.

Keith first spoke publicly about his health battle in June 2022, after he was first diagnosed in the fall of 2021.
