After Top Gun: Maverick became the highest-grossing film of Tom Cruise's career, a third Top Gun film is in the works.

Puck reports that Top Gun: Maverick co-writer Ehren Kruger is “officially working on a script for the project,” which will reunite Cruise with his Maverick costars Miles Teller and Glen Powell. No director has been set yet, but Puck believes Maverick's Joseph Kosinski is attached and will likely serve as a producer on the project.

Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two is scheduled to be released in May 2025.
