Tom Hanks’ niece experienced a massive mental breakdown on ABC’s Claim to Fame, a reality show in which people with celebrity family members try to guess each other’s famous relatives.
Carly Reeves, 39, was the first to leave the show’s latest season after her castmates were quick to suspect Hanks was her uncle.
She didn’t take it well.
As hosts Kevin and Frankie Jonas tried to wrap up the first episode of the new season, Reeves’ bloodcurdling screams could be heard in the distance.
Those screams turned into an outright tantrum as Reeves ranted about the show’s format and its competitors.
“These damn clues are so damn obvious. … Why a bank? Why a bank? “There’s literally no reference to benches in any other movie,” she exclaimed, referring to the bench from the movie Forrest Gump, which was used as one of the clues on the show.
“Even Gabriel figured that out,” she growled, roasting another performer. “He’s not even smart.”
Reeves was clearly upset that her time in the spotlight was ending so quickly.
“I wasn’t even allowed to do any challenges!” She continued. “I didn’t deserve that. I should have more camera time. I should be here longer. Nobody expected it – nobody!”
Following her quick departure from Claim to Fame, Reeves reflected on her emotional departure in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. She admits she may have overreacted “a little”.
“Yes, I was really upset,” she said. “I think I overreacted a bit, but I’m an emotional, very dramatic person. I was really angry that I couldn’t play as long as some other participants. I mean, there was nobody to be angry with. I was just generally angry at myself and the fact that I was going home. And then that turned into utter despair and sadness.”
Despite the outburst, Reeves said she hopes her Oscar-winning uncle will watch the episode, which went viral after her tirade on Twitter.
“I hope I don’t embarrass him, but I don’t think I do,” she said. “So I’d love for him to see it because I find it hilarious … He’s happy for me no matter what.”
