CNN confirmed on Friday that the British couple are getting ready to walk down the aisle after they sparked engagement rumors following their appearance at the 2022 British Film Academy Awards (BAFTA) on Sunday.
Hiddleston looked dapper in a black tuxedo, while Ashton accessorized her draped hot pink dress with an oval diamond ring on her ring finger.
The engagement news comes three years after Hiddleston and Ashton starred opposite each other in the 2019 Broadway production of Harold Pinter’s Betrayal, in which they played a married couple.
Hiddleston, best known for playing the anti-hero Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has also shown off his acting prowess in films such as Crimson Peak and Kong: Skull Island.
In addition to stage work, Ashton played in the films Velvet Circular Saw and Under Cover of Night. She will star in the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel Marvel, which is scheduled to premiere next year.
Hiddleston, who is known to have dated pop superstar Taylor Swift, has previously said he prefers to separate his romantic relationships from the life of a public figure, telling the UK Telegraph newspaper in 2017: “Everyone has the right to privacy.”
He added at the time, “I love what I do and I am fully dedicated to creating great art and great entertainment, and in my opinion, I am not at odds with the two. My work is in the public sphere and I have a private life. And those two things are different.”
