Tom Holland announces social media hiatus: ‘I get into a spiral reading things about myself’

Tom Holland returned to Instagram only to reveal he’s been taking a break from social media to focus on his mental health. The Spider-Man: No Way Home star has been absent from digital platforms and has returned to make some important announcements.

Holland shared a video on his official Instagram account and said he spent about an hour trying to find the words he was going to use.

“I’ve taken a break from social media for mental health reasons because I find Instagram and Twitter to be overly irritating and overwhelming,” he said in his initial announcement. “I get trapped and spiral when I read things about myself online and ultimately it’s very detrimental to my mental state. So I decided to take a step back and delete the app.”

His “brief return to Instagram” was to raise awareness for the charity stem4, an educational program that helps young children manage their mental health.

“There’s a terrible stigma against mental health and I know we shouldn’t be ashamed to ask for help and seek help, but it’s a lot easier said than done,” he added.

Holland said he’s tried all four apps in the program and they’ve been “amazing” and “really helpful.”

Before ending the video, the actor said he will be “getting off Instagram again,” adding, “Thank you for your love and support. I love you all and will speak to you soon.”
