Speaking to ExtraTV about the somber, psychologically grim project, Holland said the series prompted him to take a year-long hiatus from acting.
“I liked the learning curve of becoming a producer,” Holland said. “I’m no stranger to hard work, I’ve always lived by the idea that hard work is good work. I really enjoyed it but then again the show broke me.
“There came a time when I thought, ‘I need a break.’ I disappeared I went to Mexico for a week and spent some time at the beach and laid back. And I’m taking a year off now, and that’s because of how difficult this show has been,” he continued.

The Crowded Room also stars Emmy Rossum as Holland’s character’s mother. You can read The Independent’s two-star review of the series here.
At 36, Rossum is just nine years older than Holland, a discrepancy that hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans. However, the actor spoke up and explained why the casting “made sense.”
Speaking of his plans for his acting break, Holland said: “I’ve traveled a bit. I had a great time. I saw my family and my friends. I played golf. I went to the garden center, bought plants and did my best to keep them alive. I was just trying to be a normal Kingston guy and just relax.”
Holland also recently gave Marvel fans a promising update on a potential return to the Spider-Man franchise.
