2023 was a significant year for those who want to keep their head out of the hole. As the war in Ukraine approaches its second year, the rivalry between the United States and China is a growing source of tension, particularly over Taiwan and the South China Sea.
In the Middle East there is an ongoing conflict between Syria, Lebanon and Yemen. The Iranian regime, which financed and supported the October 7 bloodshed (along with some Gulf states…), welcomes more than one divine gift every day… but the reckoning – starting with its own people – will come inexorably .
At the same time, a NATO country like Turkey continues to influence regional dynamics with positions that are incompatible with the future Western orientation.
Internal conflict and violence continue from Ethiopia to Nigeria to the Sahel.
North Korea's missile and nuclear activities continue to cause tensions in Asia, particularly with South Korea, Japan and the United States.
The challenges related to cybersecurity and competition in space are belatedly gaining more attention.
2023 was the first full year of World War III. Is it clear what is happening and what will happen, or will the ostrich strategy dictate the law here for a long time?
