Big news in the business of professional wrestling.
All Elite Wrestling President Tony Hahn announced on Wednesday night on AEW Dynamite that he has bought Ring of Honor, a promotion in which many of the stars on his list are performing with the rise of their careers, from the Sinclair Broadcast Group.
The ring of honor turned 20 last week.
It broke at the end of 2021 amid announced restructuring and was due to return in April for the SuperCard of Honor. The deal includes the Ring of Honor programming library, intellectual property and production equipment. Adding the ROH content library to its own would make AEW even more attractive in any streaming deal they pursue.
“The influence of the Ring of Honor on contemporary professional struggle has been permanently enshrined in history textbooks, and this acquisition ensures that its legacy will be kept alive and treated with the utmost respect,” Hahn said in a statement. “This transaction adds thousands of hours of content to our fast-growing library and creates new opportunities to expand our footprint nationally and globally, while having the potential to produce new content under the ROH banner.
“I will immediately begin exploring opportunities to make the ROH video library available to fans who will have the opportunity to witness the early careers of some of AEW’s biggest stars.”
Brian Danielson, CM Punk, Adam Cole, Britt Baker, Hangman Page, Eddie Kingston, Keith Lee, Christopher Daniels, Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley, Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly, Young Bucks and more than two dozen other AEW artists were talents in the Ring of Honor.
Khan, the son of Jacksonville Jaguars billionaire owner Shad Khan, also has a role in the NFL franchise and is the CEO and sporting director of Fulham’s UK football team.
