AEW President and CEO Tony Hahn is the new owner of Ring of Honor.
After being annoyed that he had to make a big statement, Khan opened the episode of Dynamite on Wednesday, revealing that he had bought a ROH anti-promotion from Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns ROH after buying the company from Kerry Silkin in 2011. The deal includes the video of the ROH library, brand assets, intellectual property, production equipment, etc.
The ROH video library dates back to 2002 and includes footage from many fighters who have now signed with the AEW.
The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The purchase is made through a legal entity wholly owned by Khan.
“The influence of the Ring of Honor on contemporary professional wrestling is firmly entrenched in history textbooks, and this acquisition ensures that its legacy will be kept alive and treated with the utmost respect,” Hahn said in a statement.
“This transaction adds thousands of hours of content to our fast-growing library and creates new opportunities to expand our footprint nationally and globally, while having the potential to produce new content under the ROH banner. I will immediately start exploring opportunities to make the ROH video library available to fans who will have the opportunity to witness the early careers of some of AEW’s biggest stars. “
ROH celebrated its 20th anniversary last month. As part of the celebration, CM Punk of AEW and Brian Danielson were introduced as members of the first class ROH Hall of Fame.
In October last year, it was announced that ROH was on pause for the first quarter of 2022 as it worked to “rethink” the company. The promotion will return with Supercard of honor takes place in Garland, Texas on Friday, April 1st.
The show will be led by Jonathan Gresham and Bandido, who will face the undisputed world champion ROH.
The ROH television recording is also scheduled to take place in Philadelphia on Sunday, April 10.
