Top Boy's Ashley Walters visits community kitchen in Hackney – after revealing his children watched him get arrested is his biggest regret

Ashley Walters visited a community kitchen in Hackney on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old Top Boy star made an appearance at Idia's, a FareShare-backed organization that provides free food to those in need.

Ashley's visit came as part of McDonald's long-standing partnership with food poverty charity FareShare.

This was to celebrate the brand's sole funding, which has helped deliver the equivalent of 12 million meals to those who need them most over the last three years.

During his visit, he met with staff and volunteers to learn about the charity's efforts to serve families in need and to make donations on behalf of McDonald's and its suppliers.

Ashley helped volunteers cook and unpack supplies to be delivered to the local charity.

When asked about his visit, Ashley said: “It's clear to see that McDonald's is committed to supporting and caring for the communities in which they operate.”

“In these ongoing times of uncertainty, we know it is still so important to support those most in need and I admire the fantastic work FareShare is doing to support families in very difficult situations.”

Polly Bianchi, fundraising director at FareShare, added: “We are incredibly grateful to McDonald’s for their kindness and generosity this winter, which will provide much-needed help to many thousands of people across the UK who are finding themselves in an extremely difficult situation. “

“The funding will enable the equivalent of two million meals to be distributed to our charitable network of 8,500 charities and community groups across the UK.”

“These charities help tackle the root causes of poverty, which include homeless shelters, after-school clubs and lunch clubs for older people.”

Ashley previously said earlier this week that his biggest regret was when his children saw him arrested in 2002 after threatening a traffic officer.

The actor opened up about his life and his run-ins with the law in a candid chat for the BBC's Louis Theroux Interviews.

Ashley recalled how a gun was once pointed at him while he was carrying his son Shayon, now 22, after he made a comment on the radio about someone copying his lyrics.

After the incident, father-of-eight Ashley spent £1,300 on a gun to “protect himself”.

However, in 2002, the actor was arrested when he lost his temper during a disagreement with a traffic police officer and said, “I'll shoot you.”

The TV star's partner, Natalie Williams, and their children Shayon and China, now 21, saw him being handcuffed and taken away by police.

Recalling the incident, he said, “Actually, I had no intention of shooting.” I was not willing to risk my freedom by shooting a traffic policeman. But I mean, I made my comments, I said what I said.

“It was terrible. My biggest regret is that my children were there. “It was a big part of my life,” he admits. “I never wanted to go to prison again.”

Ashley shares Shayon and Panerai, 19, and daughter China with his former partner Natalie Williams.

The Netflix star also has two young daughters, Antonia and Ashleigh, with another unnamed woman, while he raises Amiaya-Love and River with his wife of seven years, actress Danielle Isaie, and has a stepson.

Ashley, who ended up serving 18 months in prison, said he regretted following in his convict father's footsteps.

The actor, from Peckham, south-east London, was raised by his mother Pamela while his father was in and out of prison.

At 16, he joined the So Solid Crew and established himself as Asher D.

Recalling his youth, he said, “We live in a place where young people, if they're not fully engaged, what are they doing?” They hang around and maybe get into trouble.

“It wasn’t until I was maybe 16 that I changed as a child. During those years, I went out, got into trouble, and joined So Solid.
