Top Gun: Maverick keeps breaking records. After topping Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World’s End (2007) on the Memorial Day holiday, the new film reached a significant milestone in Tom Cruise’s career. The sequel to Big Aces (1986) became the highestgrossing actor in the United States.
Well, in two weeks, Top: Gun Maverick has already surpassed the $243 million (R$1.1 billion) film War of the Worlds (2005). According to the forecast published by the Hollywood Reporter website, Paramount’s production this Sunday (5) in the United States will total $290 million (R$1.3 billion).
Despite the impressive figures, the figures presented by the Hollywood Reporter have not been adjusted for inflation. But despite this, the success of Top Gun 2 is undeniable. The film is projected to have the lowest box office decline (33%) of any production that opened on Memorial Day in the United States.
In the new story, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he should be after more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy’s finest pilots. As a brave test pilot, he pushes himself to the limit and avoids the rise through the ranks of the armed forces that would change his life forever.
Directed by Joseph Kosinsk, the film also stars Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Chelsea Harris, Jean Louisa Kelly, Monica Barbaro, Charles Parnell, Danny Ramirez, Ed Helms, Glen Powell, Jake Picking, Jay Ellis, Jon Hamm, Lewis Pullman and Scott to see Garfield in the cast.
