Top Republican likens Biden documents scandal to WATERGATE as Democratic senator questions how documents could be ‘accidentally’ removed from classified facilities

  • Rep. McCaul said Biden’s classified documents scandal could be as big as Watergate
  • He chairs the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Homeland Security
  • Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine doesn’t know how anyone can “accidentally” remove classified documents from safe places
  • The DOJ found six other documents at Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware
  • Questions about whether the President’s other belongings should be searched

Michael McCaul suggested Joe Biden’s classified documents scandal could be as big as Watergate as it calls for the president to be prosecuted – and even more Democrats are jumping in to admit it was a misstep.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) found six more classified documents at Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware this weekend, prompting questions about whether the FBI will finally search the president’s other homes.

Biden is now known to have taken at least between 25 and 30 classified documents from the White House from his years as Vice President and kept them at his home in Delaware and his think tank in Washington, DC

Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine said that because of the way they’re handled, it’s not really possible to “accidentally” take home classified materials and documents.

“I don’t really know the answer to that question,” the Virginia senator said when Margaret Brennan, host of CBS Face the Nation, asked how it could have been an “accident.”

“As a Senator of the Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committee, I review classified materials, but when I do, it is always at a classified facility where I have no access to the materials except to sit and read them,” noted he .

Kaine reiterated the need for an independent investigation into the recent scandal.

“How many documents are we talking about?” asked he.

Rep. McCaul, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and a member of the Homeland Security panel, said Biden’s handling of the documents was irresponsible.

“I don’t know what these documents are about,” McCaul told ABC This Week host Martha Raddatz on Sunday. “All I know is that the documents were there.”

“Just a lot of unanswered questions,” he added. “This was revealed and swept under the rug a week before the midterm elections. Now we just have to find out.”

“You know, Watergate started out as a very small dip and led to the resignation of the President of the United States,” McCaul said when asked if Biden’s actions would have political ramifications. “So I don’t know what’s there until we see the documents.”

Watergate was a major political scandal involving President Richard Nixon’s administration that led to his resignation. It stemmed from the then-President’s efforts to cover up involvement in the June 17, 1972 break-in of DNC headquarters at the Watergate office building.

McCaul complained that if he or his wife brought classified documents home from work, he or his wife would be prosecuted.

“There should be another standard, even if you — you know, I know, he says he released them, you know, Biden called it totally irresponsible, but still he’s guilty of the same sin if you do so.” want by taking those documents home with him,’ he said.

“Why are you taking these documents home with you? I do not understand. I have lived in a secret world for a long time.’

Federal officials are now considering searching additional areas where more materials are being found in the Biden home in Wilmington.

This includes the potential search of the president’s vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where Biden was away from Washington, DC, over his weekend, as he avoided going to his residence where the Justice Department was searching his files.

Meanwhile, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said his investigation into the Biden family would move to the “next phase.”

These investigations reportedly involve both the president’s classified documents and finances — along with those of his son, Hunter Biden.

“We look at the bank statements. We’ll look into bank violations,” Comer told the Washington Examiner.
