The Pest Informer, the North Carolina (USA) company responsible for keeping them, is offering $2,000 to Americans willing to welcome 100 cockroaches into their homes.

The aim of the campaign is to test new methods of dealing with animals that are capable of surviving a nuclear catastrophe. According to the company, the study will involve families and will last 30 days.
The house receives copies of the american cockroach (Periplaneta americana) that will be eradicated with new innovative, accessible and definitive techniques. This will only happen if testing goes as planned.
The company was surprised by the number of subscribers
As this is an unusual request, the The pest informant expects to receive few applications, giving them an elastic deadline to fill the vacancies. Submissions were open until July 31, but the company had a big surprise: it received 2,500 submissions in just a week of opening applications.
It just goes to show how desperate some Americans are for extra cash.
“We were all very impressed with this study. We were hoping to get a handful of replies, but it kind of exploded overnight. We’re struggling to keep up with applications,” company owner David Floyd said in an interview with National Public Radio.
Even if it is an unusual course, not everyone can apply for it.
Participants must be at least 21 years of age, own the property, or have written permission from the owner to take tests. In addition, no cockroach extermination techniques were allowed to be used during the study period.
If the tested techniques don’t work, the company guarantees that the house will be fumigated using traditional methods and free of contaminants insects within 30 days.
