The tornado warnings were issued by Environment Canada at noon today in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and have now ended, while tornado surveillance has been in place in the Outaouais near the town of Gatineau since 1pm.
“Doppler radar indicates a possible tornado near Route 172, the Quebec on Alert website has pointed out. This is a dangerous situation which can result in fatal injuries. Harmful winds, large hail and, in places, heavy rain are also possible.
The warning, which has since ended, was initially issued in the Rivière-Éternité area, but the potential tornado then moved north of the fjord to Sainte-Rose-du-Nord.
The sector of the city of Gatineau is attacked by a tornado watch Saturday afternoon and evening.
“Conditions are conducive to the development of severe thunderstorms that could lead to tornadoes,” Environment Canada’s website said.
Environment Canada is therefore urging the public to seek shelter immediately if an ominous weather phenomenon is approaching.
“If you hear a rumbling noise or see a funnel cloud, debris swirling near the ground or flying through the air, or an approaching threatening weather phenomenon, seek shelter immediately,” it said.
Difficult weather conditions can be observed in several regions of the province on Saturday, while several severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued in Montreal in particular.
