Four Toronto teenagers were arrested and charged after firecrackers were fired at pedestrians, one of whom was holding a newborn baby.
The facts date back to the evening of June 22 when the suspects released free firecrackers at two people walking south on Sherbourne Street near Bloor East, one of whom was holding a baby.
According to a statement from the Toronto Police Service on Thursday, four or five youths ran north toward the two victims, one of whom was shot in the chest and his shirt burned.
The suspects then proceeded to Sherbourne tube station, police said in a statement, adding that investigators wanted to meet a third victim, who was crossing the street at the time to avoid being hit by a projectile.
Two 17-year-old boys, a 16-year-old and a girl of the same age were arrested and charged with throwing explosives at a person with intent to cause bodily harm and mischief under $5,000 and to interfere with life-threatening property.
The suspects, who cannot be identified under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, are due to appear in court on August 30, it said.
