Torrential rains cause flooding in Martinique Martinique la 1ère Overseas on March 1

The tropical wave crossing Martinique produces heavy rains that flood strategic points in the road network in particular. Traffic was delicate, especially in the center of the area, but did not require a massive deployment of emergency services.

The yellow warning issued yesterday due to heavy rain was not useless.

Heavy rain fell during the lunch break. Within an hour, the services of Météo France recorded 51.9mm of rain at Diamant, 41.5mm at Lamentin, 40mm at Trois-Ilets, 40mm at Robert and about 30mm at Fort-de-France.

Nothing to worry about, but still the regional fire and rescue services (STIS) took action that was considered harmless. On this afternoon of July 11th, 5 calls were recorded for flooded shops in Fort-de-France and Diamant, a vehicle in trouble in Case Pilote, a flooded house in Bellefontaine and a narrowly missed ford crossing in Saint-Joseph.

The STIS firefighters report that the roads are passable because the flooding is underway.

For the forecasters of Météo Martinique, we tend to be calm for the next few hours. However, one must remain vigilant as the wind is weak, storm cells are moving slowly increasing the likelihood of new showers and the soggy soil is conducive to landslides.
