Journalist Hanna Resch had a blackout in the Tagesschau. Most online viewers understand and encourage her.

Hamburg/Tel Aviv – It’s every reporter’s horror scenario: a blackout in the live broadcast. That's what happened to foreign correspondent Hanna Resch on Monday (January 1) on the Tagesschau 8pm newscast. Now the journalist is receiving a lot of support online after her mistake. Many viewers encourage her on Platform X: “This can happen to anyone.”

Resch has a blackout in the Tagesschau: a foreign correspondent stumbles upon a live broadcast

The reporter was supposed to comment and classify the Tagesschau report as “Israel's judicial reform partially overturned” on the live broadcast. After keynote speaker Jens Riewa moderated the debate, Resch began with a small slip of the tongue. He then spoke of a “serious setback for Netanyahu and his radical right-wing government”. This error may have paralyzed the journalist, because not all of Netanyahu's government is radical right-wing. After looking at the notes, another attempt didn't work – and Riewa promptly took over

Reactions to the Tagesschau error: Criticism of Resch's choice of words about the Israeli government

Online criticism mainly concerns the claim that the Israeli government is “right-wing extremist”. Some X users called the change too “generalizing” and criticized his “opinion.” Others went so far as to call Resh “anti-Israel.”

A journalist came to his aid: “The people here who immediately criticize Tagesschau colleague Hanna Resch because she had a misfire that could happen to anyone are simply annoying,” he wrote on the short message service X ( former Twitter). “Full solidarity with my colleague and it is shameful to now accuse her of being hostile to Israel.”

“This can always happen”: Many viewers encourage Tagesschau journalist Resch

However, most reactions to the blackout are positive. “ARD journalist Hanna Resch experienced interruptions in her live broadcast to Israel and had to stop. And? He is only human. There is no reason for evil”, wrote the Association of German Journalists on X and shared an excerpt from the program.

Other users are also understanding in the comments. One user commented: “I don't think it's bad at all and Jens Riewa helped her a lot! It happens and it’s okay!” Ulrich Deppendorf, former head of studio ARD capital, also commented: “That could always happen. The pressure on the reporter at 8pm TS is enormous. Check it out and keep doing the good work we’ve done in Israel so far.”

“Thank you Hanna Resch, everything arrived. When excitement plays tricks on you. How cool!!!”, said another user on the platform. Many others encouraged Resch with the words “it can happen” and “keep your head up!”

News programs don't always go as planned: Gundula Gause had to cancel Today Journal

Every now and then, journalists stumble during live broadcasts. Gundula Gause recently had to cancel the “heute journals”. The ZDF presenter is now better again. (OK)
