Total closure of the coast road this Easter Sunday, a reopening

Anyone who has planned a visit to their loved ones this Easter Sunday must be careful. In fact, the coastal road has been completely closed since 6:30 a.m. Finally, it reopens at 11:45 instead of 13:00.

Reunion Island has been hit by quite heavy and persistent rains in the last few days.

In order to be able to carry out cleaning work on the cliff, The coastal road will be completely closed to traffic from 6:30 a.m. this Sunday, April 17. Finally, a reopening is planned for 11:45 a.m. instead of 1 p.m..

A detour via the Route de la Montagne, RD41, is in place. But the CRGT points out that “Traffic on the RD41 Route de la Montagne changes in the Grande Chaloupe sector (PR 19+100), which can occasionally cause traffic delays.”

Users are therefore asked to limit their journeys in this sector or to postpone their departures while waiting for the road to reopen.

Last Tuesday, at the end of the day, there was a little scree near the Cap Bernard Tunnel. Grapeshot fell on the sea-side and mountain-side roads. Only one vehicle was slightly hit.

Clean-up operations were quickly initiated by the services of CRGT, the Reunion Center for Traffic Management, without closure. But by Thursday evening there was a 2+1 shift in traffic.
