There had been a toxic working atmosphere on the set “for several years”. The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallonand America’s favorite host reportedly has a lot to do with it Rolling Stone.
Two current employees and 14 former employees of the popular American show The Tonight Show, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, told Rolling Stone that the headliner’s “erratic and unpredictable” behavior was creating an unhealthy work atmosphere for several years.
“Nobody said no to Jimmy,” admits a former team member. “We all walked on eggshells.”
“Every day was ruined if Jimmy wasn’t happy,” adds another former employee who wished to remain anonymous.
Some of these employees also claim to have been belittled and bullied by their superiors, sometimes by Fallon himself.
A space to grieve in peace
Seven employees who are no longer with the team say their time on The Tonight Show was damaging to their mental health. According to her, it was common to hear cynical jokes about suicide.
Such was the ordeal that the room used by guests to change also doubled as a “crying room” when staff could no longer endure the treatment they received.
Scores of employees admitted to Rolling Stone that after leaving the job they needed therapy of all kinds, some even going so far as to contemplate suicide.
Lack of stability
Since the first episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2014, the series’ production team has changed nine times; a lack of stability that is not independent of the toxic atmosphere in the company.
The nature of the words and actions accused of Fallon and other members of the team have not been disclosed.
Nearly 80 employees and former employees were contacted by Rolling Stone after receiving the news, and while some praised the entertainer’s talents, none had positive comments to make about his experience on the show.
Representatives for Jimmy Fallon declined to comment on the allegations and NBC, which airs The Tonight Show, said only: “We are incredibly proud of The Tonight Show and our priority is to create a work environment where everyone is respectful.” As in all companies, complaints are analyzed and appropriate action is taken. We encourage employees to report misconduct.”
According to Rolling Stone, complaints were referred to the company’s human resources department with no action taken.
