Tracadie: A police chase leads to the arrest of one person – Acadie Nouvelle

A 29-year-old young man will face court following a police chase that took place on the streets of Tracadie on Friday evening.

The events began around 7:15 p.m. after RCMP received a domestic violence call in the Leech area.

“After a short time, RCMP members were able to locate a suspicious vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop, forcing a police chase into Tracadie,” said Sergeant Luc Samson.

“A woman who was on board reported to police that she needed assistance,” the RCMP spokesperson added.

After a chase spanning several kilometers, the suspect intentionally rammed an RCMP vehicle, causing significant damage to the patrol car.

The chase lasted a short time before ending when the victim was found on the side of the road.

The suspicious vehicle was subsequently found abandoned in the Saint-Pons area.

“The driver, a 29-year-old man, was located and arrested a short time later without incident,” Sergeant Samson said.

The nature of the charges that will be brought against the suspect has not yet been determined.

The young man was released pending his court appearance in Bathurst on May 27.
