The closure of a ramp between Champlain Boulevard and the Henri-IV freeway beginning Sunday could cause a headache for motorists trying to cross the Pierre Laporte Bridge.
The ramp in question is located near the CN train station. It allows motorists traveling westbound on Champlain to access the Pierre Laporte Bridge.
To take this bridge, motorists must continue on Champlain to Avenue des Hôtels before taking Boulevard Laurier and exiting at the Route 175 interchange, which takes them south on Henri-IV.
Boulevard Champlain users for whom the Quebec Bridge is an option can quickly take it via Avenue des Hôtels.
MTQ warns that these works could cause slowdowns and congestion, particularly during rush hour.
Responsible for this closure is the repair of the concrete structure of the Henri-IV motorway in the south at the level of the ramp. The ramp will not be accessible from Sunday, 7 p.m. MTQ estimates it will reopen no later than Friday, September 2 at 5am.
In addition, the installation of a super signal bridge during the night of August 15-16 will result in a complete closure of the Pierre Laporte Bridge for about 30 minutes.
Work begins at 9 p.m. on Monday and ends at 5 a.m. the next day. During this time, two out of three lanes will be closed in each direction.
Southbound, the Henri-IV motorway will be completely closed around 1am at Chemin Saint-Louis.
Northbound traffic will also be halted for 30 minutes at the north end of the bridge at the same time. Please note that the ramp to Boulevard Champlain is closed from 20:00 to 05:00 and a detour via Chemin Saint-Louis is possible.
Another project begins Monday at junction 325 in Lévis for a period of approximately 10 weeks.
Westbound 20 will add a second northbound lane at exit 173 to Wilfrid-Carrier Boulevard. The latter will also be widened by one lane up to the ramp to the 20 in a westerly direction.
To the east, a third lane will be added to Autoroute 20 for a distance of 500 m before junction 325, ie the exit to Route du Président-Kennedy (173).
This work will have a significant impact. One of the two lanes of the 20 in an easterly direction will be closed between km 323 and junction 325, full closures are also planned from 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., the maximum speed will be reduced to 70 km/h.
The lanes will also be closed in both directions on the 173 at junction 325, but only outside of the rush hour.
In its press release announcing the start of construction around Junction 325, MTQ noted that “these interventions are part of the preparatory work for the Quebec-Lévis tunnel project.”
However, when the project was presented in March 2020, the government made no reference to the tunnel project.
