Tragedy in Baltimore, nearly 340 mass shootings in US in 2023

The fatal victims were young women and men, aged 20 and 18, respectively, according to a statement from the Baltimore Police Department.

The local mayor, Democrat Brandon Scott, regretted what happened in the early hours of this Sunday morning, saying it was a “reckless and cowardly act”.

Richard Worley, acting commissioner of the Baltimore Police Department, said the investigation is ongoing, there are no suspects and the motives for the crime are unknown.

According to CNN, another celebration by an attacker ended fatally.

According to the Archives of Armed Violence, this is the 338th shooting since early 2023 and the third recorded in the first two days of July.

The previous incidents were reported this Sunday in Wichita, Kansas, with a total of seven injured, and the day before in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with four injured.

A survey by the Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) released last April found that concerns and fears about gun violence are widespread in the United States.

According to the survey, most families were affected by an event related to these artifacts.

Statistics now indicate that one in five adults has killed a relative with a gun, including homicide and suicide, as part of the country’s armed violence epidemic.

The United States is the only country in the world where more firearms are owned by civilians than residents; Firearm homicides are 25.2 times higher than in the rest of the developed world and there are more mass shootings than anywhere else in the world.
