An hour after an injury-plagued Portland Trail Blazers team fell against the Sacramento Kings, Damian Lillard took to Twitter to make a bold statement about the team’s motives for 2022-23.
With the Blazers holding a 28-31 record, good enough for 12th place in the Western Conference, the team needs its veterans to return soon to put on a serious run in the postseason.
Rip City Radio’s Chad Doing initially tweeted the Blazers would have to fall down the table with 24 games remaining. The intention would be to give the team the best chance of catching French phenomenon Victor Wembanyama in the June NBA draft.
Lillard tweeted a simple, “No way.”
Lillard, along with Jerami Grant, sat out today’s game to “rest” after the team’s trip to Northern California was marred by a blizzard in Portland last night. The team also had to do without Anfernee Simons, Jusuf Nurkic and Justise Winslow against the Kings.
Despite sitting in 12th place in the conference, the franchise is still three games clear of sixth place.
