Train catches fire with 200 passengers on board while traveling on a bridge in the United States

About 200 people aboard a Boston subway were evacuated after the train caught fire while crossing a bridge over the Mystic River. Local chain Boston 25 confirmed the event happened last Thursday, July 21, in the morning.

According to those affected, the accident caused panic among people traveling on the orange line of the subway. Out of fear, citizens smashed windows to protect themselves, and even a woman jumped out of the vehicle into the river to try to save herself.

Fortunately there were no dead or injured. According to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), the woman who jumped off the bridge swam to shore and refused medical attention from emergency medical services.

After a preliminary inspection, MBTA Director General Steve Poftak stated that the blazes were caused by the detachment of a metal deck that produced the fire upon impact with the third rail. He also pointed out that there are still violations in the provision of transport services.

“It was very scary for all of us, we had no idea what was going on. It was mayhem. I think I’m safer in the water now than walking on the tracks,” the woman who jumped off the bridge told American media WBZ.
