Trans activists fume at JK Rowling’s new HBO series Harry Potter: ‘Putting Our Lives At Risk’

According to various Hollywood outlets, the long-rumoured “Harry Potter” HBO Max series has taken big, concrete steps in its development, with the latest news stating that the streaming platform is seeking a deal with Rowling for creative rights to the universe.

Additionally, reports have confirmed that Warner Bros. is in talks with Rowling to enlist her as a producer on the potential project. The show is still in very early stages of production as Warner Bros has yet to hire a screenwriter for it.

The general idea for the HBO Max series is a seven-season series based on the seven main books of Harry Potter, which also became the iconic Warner Bros films of the 2000s.

The studio said it wanted to bring Rowling on board to “ensure it stays true to their original material.”

Rowling’s critics have wreaked havoc on the news, with some berating the Harry Potter creator for adding more wealth to her creative empire and claiming she doesn’t deserve it for her alleged harm to the trans community.

Entertainment company journalist and trans woman Zoe Rose Bryant speared Rowling over the reports on Twitter. She wrote: “Despite how absurdly unnecessary a HARRY POTTER reboot is in the first place, I would just prefer we didn’t continue to give billions to a woman who has made it her life’s work to debunk the existence of trans women and endangering our lives with their relentless hateful rhetoric.”

Bryant added, “I also liked HARRY POTTER when I was a kid and then I grew up and now its creator is actively contributing to a culture that wants me dead.”

Twitter user @tardisgirlmeg asked: “Who even asked for this? JK Rowling is a transphobe and you want to give her more money??? Are you crazy? @HBO f— you for supporting a transphobia.”

Expressing sympathy for the trans staff at HBO Max, queer user @letlovewinx tweeted, “I feel so awful that all the trans people who work for @HBO and @hbomax need to know that they are employed by a company willing to do so out of greed for the welfare of their employees.”
