An ORF report earlier this week caused outrage among Vorarlberg’s Greens.
In a VGT campaign, animal rights activists drew attention to the renewed calf transports on Monday – reported VOL.AT. An ORF report was released on Tuesday about the poor condition of the calves en route to Spain.
The Vorarlberg Greens were outraged by the situation. “The agonizing animal transports across Europe continue. Young calves from Vorarlberg farms are transported for more than 30 hours in the narrowest loading bays, without proper care and in undignified conditions, to be fattened on Spanish breeding farms”, says Christine Bösch-Vetter in a broadcast. To improve the situation of the animals, it is necessary to start with intensive milk production.
“Needs a modern slaughterhouse”
Bösch-Vetter criticizes the Chamber of Agriculture. This would cater only to dairy farmers, but should show farmers future possibilities and strategies beyond milk production.
The country is also responsible. Authorities are no longer responsible when animals reach the destination country, but they know what happens to calves. “We need a modern slaughterhouse in the state with marketing strategies for a wide range of Vorarlberg agricultural products.”
