Going on vacation is a wonderful thing. Strolling, getting to know new cultures and customs and switching off from the worries and stress of everyday life are qualities that everyone likes. However, it is still possible to go further as new research says so Traveling is good for your health and the further away the target is, the more benefits are perceived!

The further the better!

Researchers at UCL, University College London, found from an online survey of 3,014 residents that people who travel far from where they live feel healthier than those who stay closer to home. For example, those who regularly travel to destinations more than 15 miles from home are more likely to report good overall health.

The scientists studied travel in northern England, where residents face worse health outcomes than the rest of the country. In parallel, it has been found that many rural and suburban areas suffer from poor transport links, which discourages people from leaving their surroundings.

During the course of the study, the extent of the restrictions people face when traveling to places more than 24 km away from their place of residence was assessed based on four aspects:

  • lack of adequate public transportation and selfreported health;
  • The number of different places people have visited;
  • The distance traveled;
  • The use of cars and public transport.
  • The results of the study

    Thus, the study provided evidence that travel restrictions outside the local area are directly and indirectly linked to health and wellbeing problems. In addition, the availability of quality public transport that is accessible to all can reduce travel restrictions and contribute to health and wellbeing.

    In addition, the study also reinforces the idea that transport policy must go hand in hand with social and health policy.
