Timeline
After two years of the pandemic, the need to catch up on holidays is high. This is demonstrated by a Marketagent survey on behalf of the Austrian Tourist Office. Eight out of ten respondents have booked at least one holiday for this year.

Every second person wants to travel more than once this year. Apparently, Austrians are fed up with the pandemic. The values of the current survey are at the level of the last November 2019, that is, before the pandemic. On average, people planned a total of 18 days of vacation. With an average of just over 1,500 euros, the travel budget is almost as complete as in the last survey.
I prefer to go on vacation by car
According to the survey, tourists crave culinary delights and pleasure above all else. 70 percent just want to relax and enjoy, 44 percent discover new travel destinations, followed by a desire to experience art and culture.
The way people want to go on vacation has changed significantly: regardless of the price of fuel, having your own car is at the top of the list. Two-thirds want to go to the holiday destination, in 2020 it was just under half. Significantly more also want to travel by train, the clear loser being the plane. Only a good third of travelers want to fly. In addition, the plus also continues during the camping vacation.
Popular: Austria and Italy
When it comes to overseas travel destinations, Italy still ranks first, with every third person wanting to go there this year. Croatia and Germany follow. Long-distance travel is the loser this year. Tour operators say this is obviously due to the pandemic.
A holiday in Austria is therefore at the top of the list, with three out of four respondents planning at least a few days in their own country this year. Because, according to Marketagent, the consequences of the war in Ukraine for travel opportunities are currently difficult to assess.
