Heidelberg is a city in the German state of Baden-Württemberg and lies on the banks of the Neckar in southwest Germany. Like most European tourist cities, Heidelberg has a magnificent old town.
Heidelberg is a relatively small city. Visitors can therefore explore it on foot, starting with the old town. It is best known for its famous 14th-century university, the Express newspaper reported on Thursday, January 4.

What visitors can explore on foot in Heidelberg
One of the best places to explore Heidelberg on foot is Hauptstraße, the city's main shopping street. It is one of the longest pedestrian zones in Europe. It crosses Heidelberg's old town over a length of 1.8 km and dates back to the 13th century.
On this street, visitors discover a wide range of shops and restaurants as well as the historic Heidelberg town hall and the Holy Spirit Church.
To take this walking exploration a step further, you can head to the historic Heidelberg Castle and enjoy some of the best views of the pretty city. The historic castle overlooking the city is actually the highest-rated attraction on Tripadvisor.
After exploring the city, why not take a boat trip along the river? In addition, the Karl-Theodor-Brücke, a pedestrian bridge over the river, is another great place for a souvenir photo.
