KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jason Kelce could feel his brother’s pain.
One of the Kelce brothers had to win and the other had to lose on Monday night.
This time it was Travis Kelce’s turn as the Philadelphia Eagles cruised to a 21-17 comeback win.
Afterward, Travis, the All-Pro tight end, was in the Kansas City Chiefs locker room just before the media. By one reporter’s estimate, Travis talked for all of 40 seconds.
Jason, the Eagles’ All-Pro center, had a brief exchange with his brother after the game.
“Anytime one of the guys doesn’t want to talk much after the game,” Jason said. “I think if he’s like me, in a way you’re happy for your brother. Knowing how the game turned out for him, he’s probably doing pretty well at the moment.”
Travis caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes late in the second quarter to give the Chiefs a 14-7 lead, but also recovered a fumble in the red zone in the fourth quarter that resulted in a scoring opportunity. He also faced double coverage all game, didn’t catch a pass in the first quarter and finished the game with seven catches for 44 yards. And he dropped a pass on Kansas City’s final drive.
“We’ll talk later in the week,” Jason said. “It was a hard-fought game. Both sides made many mistakes. The clock has expired. It could have gone either way.”
Big brother knows. The last time the brothers played each other, Jason suffered a loss in Super Bowl 57. Jason recalled that days after this setback, he had to join his brother on the popular podcast “New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce” They are co-hosts.
“We had our ups and downs,” Jason said.
